NFL Playoffs 2012

AFC

New England Patriots

The number 1 seed, went 13-3 during the regular season. All three loses coming when the offence failed to rack up points under brandy’s control, which was very rare as they ranked 3rd in points scored. However they rank mid table in points allowed and are not nearly as bad defensively as some people suggest, could this be the year Brady gets Super bowl number four.

Baltimore Ravens

The number 2 seed, are somewhat of an enigma rarely of late winning statement games away from home, due to Mark Sanchez alarming digressing Joe Flacco has avoided major headlines regarding his own struggles. What has put the Ravens in the playoffs is defence where they continue to rank at the top end of the league. They are a fairly balanced team which in this era of the NFL is a positive, but the lack of a statement away win suggests they will struggle to make it pass the championship game.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The number 5 seed, are a great defensive team in a league where very few teams play that side of the ball at all. They are not great on the offensive side of the ball, however with their great defensive they are usually in games all the way and with Big Ben at QB they are always likely to e make key plays. For me it is between them and the Patriots for who represents the AFC in the Super bowl.

Houston Texans

The number 3 seed, are a team that are a bit up and down. One week they look like they can go deep in the playoffs and another they look like they don’t deserve to be in them at all. With this being the Texans first post season, they probably lack the experience to make all that much of an impression although they do have a winnable wildcard game.

Denver Broncos

The Number 4 seed, fell into the playoffs rather then played themselves in losing their last three games. The Tebow magic seems to have disappeared. Look for the Pittsburgh Steelers to knock them out in the first round of the playoffs

Cincinnati Bengals

The number 6 seed Are at the Houston Texans in the wild card round. With Cincinnati still rebuilding and the Texans being in their first post season game this really is a 50/50 game. If I had to choose id go for the Texans who would appear to have the better overall team.

NFC

Green Bay Packers

The number 1 seed and current Super bowl champions are an offensive machine, where the back up QB Matt Flynn threw for 6 touchdowns and 480 yards in week 17. However they are not great on defensive ranking low mid table in points allowed. Did the Chiefs show the way to beat the Packers blunt their offensive and make the packers defensive be on the field for when it matters in the game situation. Only time will tell if the Packers offensive can cover for their defensive flaws.

Detroit Lions

The number 6 seed went out the gate fast and went 5-0. However since then they have gone 5-6, the defensive seems to have collapsed, although their offensive is better then expected. Look for them to lose at the Saints in the first round unless the Lions defence shows the early season form of getting stops at key times.

New Orleans Saints

The number 3 seed , are a team that can outscore anyone however look the rest of the heavy scorers their defence is not great. This means that if the offence doesn’t produce then the team might struggle. However stopping Drew Brees is easier said then done. How far they go depends on their QB more then anything else.

Atlanta Falcons

The number 5 seed have the unpredictable Giants who can look awesome one week and shockingly bad the next. The Falcons themselves are a solid all round team without being particular good on either defence or offence, however against the up and down giants you’d have to give them a 50/50 chance. If they do win the wild card look for them to lose in the next round.

San Francisco 49ers

The number 2 seed are solid on offence and great on defence. Their defence will always keep them in the game but for them to have a real shot you would think that Alex Smith would need to convert better when in the red zone as the 49ers do no get nowhere near enough touchdowns when in the red zone. Only time will tell if Smith can step up.

New York Giants
The number 4 seed are a very up and down team. What version will turn up against the Falcons is anyone’s guess. If they show up on a good day then that may well see them have the edge over the falcons in the wild card game. It would be hard to see them going much further then that.
